A mala is used during meditation to help the mind focus. It is composed of 108 prayer beads and one sumeru, or head bead. To focus, pick a mantra, such as “I am at peace” and hold onto a bead. Repeat the mantra 108 times while simultaneously observing breath. If possible, fix focus of the eyes to the space in between the eyebrows.
